About this little program

David Link began Timeline in 2005 to explore an Entity/Event model and simple natural-language statements. The original Perl CGI application drew rudimentary ASCII charts. This browser port keeps that idea—and the old datasets—without requiring Perl or a server-side process.

Try a sentence such as Socrates was born 470 BC. Dates may be years, BC/AD years, or month/day/year. The text is intentionally interpreted by a small set of rules, not an AI model. That is part of its charm.
